Reporting on the English Language Summer- Schools for Children 2017

Four English language summer- schools are taking place between 17 of July and 11 August in Ak-Orgo and Ak-Ordo, Alchaluu near Tokmok, Chaek and Kok-Oi in the Jumgal Valley. 540 students take part in summer schools (80 students in Ak-Orgo and Ak-Ordo, 59 in Alchaluu, 318 in Chaek and 83 in Kok-Oy).

In Shark and Mady villages in Kara-Suu district of Osh province, seven self-help groups (SHGs) and children’s self-help groups (CSHGs) organized by women’s public union Erayim went to Abshyr-Sai jailoo in Nookat district as part of the ‘The Introduction of a Combination of Traditional and Modern Approaches to Prevent Conflict in the South of Kyrgyzstan’ project, which is financed by the international German organization Bread for the World (Brot für die Welt).

Citizens Receive Legal Assistance and Consultations

Women’s Public Union Erayim’s project entitled ‘The Introduction of a Combination of Traditional and Modern Approaches to Prevent Conflict in the South of Kyrgyzstan’ has been extended for another 2.5 years and has also expanded its scope of activities with new types of services, one of which is the provision of legal advice. Gulnara Tashieva, a legal adviser in Jalal-Abad province, reported that a number of legal and consulting works have been carried out. Here are some examples of her work so far.

Zhyldyz Kaldarbekova provides psychological assistance to the residents of the Ch. Aitmatov district of Jalal-Abad city within the framework of WPU Erayim’s ‘The Introduction of a Combination of Traditional and Modern Approaches to Prevent Conflict in the South of Kyrgyzstan’ project. During a survey, she met a woman named Umsunai Bazarkulova. It was evident that she had had a hard life and health problems. The psychologist, who noticed that the inner world of the woman had visibly affected her appearance, decided to talk with her sincerely and found out what her problem was, what she was worried about.

Interesting Training

A training workshop called ‘A NGO and its Environment’ was conducted in the Alym Usman secondary school № 7, in Ch. Aitmatov district in Jalal-Abad city, within the framework of the ‘The Introduction of a Combination of Traditional and Modern Approaches to Prevent Conflict in the South of Kyrgyzstan’ project, which is being implemented by the women’s public union Erayim and financed by the international German organization Bread for the World (Brot für die Welt). According to the trainer Zhanar Ryskulova, the training was very interesting since all six children’s self-help groups (CSHGs) organized in this school participated.

The 2017 Summer English Language Schools Have Started

One of Erayim’s most interesting and useful projects is its English Summer School for Children. This project is funded by the British charitable organization The Erayim Aid Trust UK, established under the British Charity Commission (registration number UK 1163524). This year, volunteers from universities across the UK such as Cambridge, Bristol, and Sheffield, as well as experienced teachers who previously participated in the project, have arrived to take part in the project.

Every year, the number of children in villages is increasing and the issue of the shortage of kindergartens remains one of the most pressing in Kyrgyzstan. As a result, children are being left unattended and due attention to education and upbringing is not given.
