‘Sarmerden 2018’ holiday concert was organized by the SHG members in the village of Kommunist of Kyzyl-Kyshtak rural district on 21 March 2018, as part of the WPU Erayim’s ‘The Introduction of a Combination of Traditional and Modern Approaches to Prevent Conflict in the South of Kyrgyzstan’ project, financed by the international German organization Bread for the World (Brot für die Welt). It was attended by the residents of the multinational villages of Ishkavan, Kyzyl-Bairak, Kerme-Too and Kommunist. The head of creative group ‘Shayir Apalar’ of the Kara-Suu district Anara Omurzakova and the head of the ‘Biyhan’ SHG of WPU Erayim Zhyldyz Kaparova delivered their festive congratulatory speeches.

Nooruz is always celebrated as a holiday of spring, work, solidarity, peace and harmony. During this holiday, people always treat each other with kindness, help low-income families, and try to receive the blessings of the elderly. Our people celebrate Nooruz by preparing Sumalak and wish each other the purest wishes.

Within the framework of the festive event the theater and concert program were presented entitled ‘Nooruz is the Basis of the Revival of National Traditions and Heritage’. The competition ‘Sarmerden-2018’ featured scenes on the theme ‘Legacy of the Ancestors’, ‘Wisdom of Mothers’, ‘New Year's Eve’, ‘Nooruz Rituals’, ‘Akiynek’ songs and dances. Nooruz's attributes were also shown such as fuming of spruce, blessing of people for the new year and distribution of sumalak treats to all people participating in the event.
