Members of the SHG Associations of Bazar-Korgon district organized a trip to the historic tower in Uzgen town. These Associations were created within the framework of the WPU Erayim’s project ‘Introduction of a combination of traditional and modern approaches to prevent conflict in the South of Kyrgyzstan’, supported by Bread for the World. They became witnesses of historical inscriptions and patterns that have been preserved since the XI century.

- “We often drive past this tower when we are traveling to Osh city on business. This ancient tower is located right on the road to the city of Osh, in the center of Uzgen. But I never thought to stop and get acquainted with the tower, to see its historical inscriptions and patterns. The members of the three SHG Associations of the project decided to visit this historic site. Today, finally, everyone has been fortunate enough to visit this area. Through the history of the tower, we met with the history of the town of Uzgen. It was great. We noticed that there are a lot of visitors here. So, everyone wants to know the history. We intend to continue our journey to the historical places of our country,” – noted the project coordinator on SHG Kishimzhan Boronbaeva.

- “As the people say, ‘Gold you have yourself, has no value (We never know the value of water till the well is dry.)’. Actually, we can’t deny that we don’t pay attention to our historical sites. Driving past, only out of the corner of eyes we look at the tower. We do not go inside, we are always in a hurry. This time we come to this place to get acquainted with history, we have learned a lot of interesting things. We did not know that around this tower there is a mosque and other buildings that hide their history. Therefore, we realized that we should come again and next time with our children. Today we saw that schoolchildren from Bishkek arrived here. They came specially from such a distance. We asked other visitors where they came from. There were visitors from Tokmok, Batken, Aksy, from all edges of the country. We received a positive charge, became more cheerful having learned the history of the land,” – noted Zulayka Zholdosheva, a member of ‘Akyikat’ Association.

It should be noted that within the project, three SHG Associations entitled ‘Asylzat’, ‘Ak Tilek’ and ‘Akyikat’ were created from 36 Self-Help Groups in Akman and Bazar-Korgon rural districts of Bazar-Korgon district to solve rural problems and initiate new initiatives to raise living standards.
