Gulnara Tashieva is the lawyer of the WPU Erayim’s ‘The Introduction of a Combination of Traditional and Modern Approaches to Prevent Conflict in the South of Kyrgyzstan’ project. She provided legal assistance to about thirty citizens in the project area of Jalal-Abad province.
For example, a resident of the Bazar-Korgon village M.A. of 1988 year of birth addressed to her. She with her husband H.A. in January 2017, went to Russia to work, leaving their young children to her own sister, who was in a civil marriage with a 17-year-old young man named N.H. Her and her cohabitant treatment of her sister's children was very brutal. They beat the children with a strap and a rod. Three-year-old child A. died of severe beatings. And two other children were taken to the intensive care unit of the Bazar-Korgon district hospital in a serious condition. Fortunately, two children managed to be saved. The Bazar-Korgon police released the suspected of committing a crime without the end of the investigation. The injured party appealed to a number of other law enforcement agencies. Not having received the proper help in any of the instances, they turned to the lawyer of WPU Erayim for help. After hearing their complaint and legal assessment, the lawyer started to help and as a result the court of Bazar-Korgon district entered a verdict. By the verdict of the court the citizen N. was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment, and her cohabitant N.H. was sentenced to 9 years imprisonment.
- “Frankly speaking, at present many citizens do not know their rights, or do not pay attention to it. But when they have trouble, they need the help of a lawyer. I give legal assistance to at least two people every day. All problems are different. I try to help everyone, listen to their problems, and try to solve their problem till the end in a positive way. Together with the project psychologist, we also render needy citizens with a psychological help since many of them fall into depression because of difficulties. And recently, there are a lot of people who do not know their rights for monthly child benefits, and a lump sum ‘Suyunchu’ received at the birth of a child. There are people who find it difficult to get such benefits, and we work closely with these problems,” says Mrs Tashieva.
