On 14 December 2017, a general meeting of self-help groups was held in the At-Bashy village of Naryn province within framework of the WPU Erayim’s ‘Establishing Associations of SHGs in Regions’ project, supported by the British charitable organization CAF (Charities Aid Foundation).

The main goal was to form SHG’s Association from sustainable ‘Zhakshylyk’, ‘Bereke’, ‘Lira’, ‘Kut’ and ‘Yyman’ self-help groups in At-Bashy village. The meeting was attended by the representatives of WPU Erayim and micro-credit agency ‘Erayim Bereke’, members of self-help groups, representatives of local authorities, representatives of youth and women's committees of the village.

After the introductory speech, the WPU Erayim’s SHG coordinator of Naryn province Elmira Sepishova gave the floor to the SHG coordinator of At-Bashy district Fatima Shadybekova. In her speech, she told the story of the formation and development of SHGs in the village of At-Bashy, as well as achievements and successes. After that, all 5 representatives of SHG also told about their positive work. It is worth noting about the work of the SHG. This year they provided funds for food at a rate of 2000 Som to Pamir Kyrgyz people who moved to Naryn and bought a stroller for 4,000 Som to a newborn child named Almazbek, and also organized a concert program. SHGs congratulate and present gifts to the veterans of the Second World War, the elderly, women and children from their savings on holidays.

They have achieved good results by addressing to UNDP and ARIS organizations and installed water pipes for drinking water and a drainage system. SHG in At Bashy district actively participate in gardening the environment. They also sent a letter to the deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh A. Batyrbekov and achieved the construction of a two-story music school named after Zh. Shukurbekov. At the annual festival ‘Shyrdak’ their work on the production of shyrdaks was highly evaluated and sold for 700-1000 US dollars to foreign tourists. In 2017, 18 members of the ‘Zhakshylyk’, ‘Bereke’, ‘Lira’ and ‘Kut’ SHGs participated in the ‘Shayir Apalar’ TV competition, won the Grand Prix and were awarded with a cash reward at the amount of 25,000 Soms. SHG member Fatima Shadybekova received the state award ‘Excellent worker of culture of the KR’.

During the meeting, the participants discussed the position of the Association and voted unanimously on its adoption. Each group nominated 2 members, and they were elected. The meeting was completed with the warm wishes of the aksakals (elders) of the groups.
