Today, the able-bodied population of Mady, Shark and Kyzyl-Kyshtak village districts of Kara-Suu district in Osh province are victims of labor migration because of unemployment.

For the same reason, they leave their children to elderly parents or other relatives. These children face problems in obtaining preschool education because of the shortage of preschool institutions, financial difficulties and other reasons. To solve this problem, the Women’s Public Union Erayim has opened over 20 maternal schools for preschool children since 2014 and they are still working. Currently, the number of children of preschool age attending maternal schools is 670. Children with disabilities, children from low-income families, children of single mothers receive benefits, and some other children are even brought up for free when they get into the maternal school. More than 93 local residents were provided with jobs since the opening of maternal schools during four years. Three maternal schools out of twenty have been transferred to the budget of village districts. This information was given to us by Gulkaiyr Zholdubaeva the coordinator of the maternal schools in Osh province.

The heads of the maternal schools of Mady, Shark and Kyzyl-Kyshtak village districts of Kara-Suu district working within the framework of the WPU Erayim’s ‘The Introduction of a Combination of Traditional and Modern Approaches to Prevent Conflict in the South of Kyrgyzstan’ project, funded by German international organization Bread for the World (Brot für die Welt) arrived in the village of Akman of Bazar-Korgon district in Jalal-Abad province to have an exchange of experience and get acquainted with the work of ‘Yntymak’ and ‘Akman’ maternal schools. As part of this exchange of experience, the heads of the schools received information about the programs of these maternal schools, their teaching methods, and conditions of the schools. They have also examined the beautiful design of schools, exchanged views and expressed their intentions to continue to work closely with each other.

- "The meeting was very interesting and useful. We got acquainted with the conditions and programs of the schools, and also had mutually beneficial talks during the time given to us. From now on, if the maternal schools of Osh and Jalal-Abad provinces work and have exchange of experiences with other maternal schools, they will achieve greater development and achievement of their goals" - said Zhyldyz Kaparova the head of ‘Aruuzat’ maternal school.

The next meeting is planned to be held in the village of Ishkavan in Kyzyl-Kyshtak village district of the Kara-Suu district.
