SHG “Iyman Nuru”, consisting of 8 members, was created in May 2014 by women living on A. Sydykov Street in Padavan village, in the Shark village district of the Kara Suu region of the Osh province. Their main goal is to create a culture where residents take positive action to resolve rural issues and where the local government of the village is proactive in solving village problems.
One of the main problems of the village is unemployment, owing to which many young families are leaving for places nearby and going abroad in order to earn money; there are also issues of bad roads and the lack of kindergartens. While it is impossible to solve these problems in the short term and on their own, the SHG members, by opening a sewing shop, have been able to prove that it is possible in small ways to provide useful and necessary work for the villagers. To begin with they were trained as trainers, and then they started a fund to open the sewing shop, they bought sewing machines and started to sew national costumes for the local population. Now the number of their clients is growing. According to Erlan Davlatov, an expert on Public Relations and Mass Media for WPU “Erayim” in Osh province, with the start of the new year they have received a loan amounting to 100 000 Soms from WPU “Erayim”. Now they are going to make use of these funds to purchase the necessary equipment which will provide them with a fully operational workshop.
