In the Kosh-Korgon and Kaiyrma villages of the Akman municipality within the Bazar-Korgon district, agronomist-trainer Mamatov Toichubai organized a seminar for SHG members and stakeholders on the topics of planting, pruning, and grafting fruit trees. Practical training exercises were held.
On the first day of the training, participants learned about fruit trees. They learned about varieties of fruit trees, their quality, and their economic viability. Then, they focused on mistakes made by local gardeners and new technologies to assist in planting. Lastly, they were taught to properly plant seedlings.
On the second day of training, the participants learned how to prune fruit trees by thinning and shortening branches. They were taught what seasons were ideal for pruning different fruit trees. The advantages and disadvantages of pruning in winter vs spring were explained. Participants also received a detailed explanation of pruning techniques based on the type and variety of fruit trees. They were able to practice pruning trees in the garden. On the third day of the training, participants were taught methods of grafting trees, such as splitting trees into a stick, grafting from skin to bark, grafting with a diagonal cut, and grafting from a bud.
Participants were explained about seasons of grafting, and that the method of grafting depends on the season. Information was also provided on characteristics of annual rods, dormant rods (fat shoots) and flowering rods. In the six-day training, the agronomist demonstrated in practice how to prepare biohomus and compost.
