WPU Erayim together with the lawyers of the National Mediation Center began to carry out a number of works in order to conduct bilateral negotiations with the parties for the peaceful settlement of conflicts and disputes.

Previously, 24 mediators from Kara-Suu and Bazar-Korgon districts were trained in the course ‘Mediation. Basic Course’. As a result, 12 mediators were selected out of 24 participants as local mediators. Later ‘Resolving family problems peacefully’ training was organized for them. Currently, on May 15-16-17, local mediators took part in the training ‘A Community (Restorative) Mediation’.

The three-day training was attended by 12 mediators from Kara-Suu and Bazar-Korgon districts Osh and Jalal-Abad oblasts. They have already successfully completed the training provided by a special law on mediation and received a certificate confirming the status of a mediator by the Kyrgyz Community of Mediators. They are active members of Self-Help Groups and employees of WPU Erayim.

The training course is part of the third phase of the WPU Erayim project ‘The Introduction of a Combination of Traditional and Modern Approaches to Prevent the Conflict in the South of Kyrgyzstan’ supported by the German international organization Bread for the World. The training was carried out under the guidance of an experienced mediation coach Gulsina Kozhoyarova.

The participants demonstrated their theoretical knowledge and practical skills on mediation in discussing each training topic. They were divided into groups, worked on specially prepared cases, this way they strengthened their mediatory skills and abilities.

‘This three-day intensive training was very interesting and rewarding for all the participants. We received useful information and experience in improving the professionalism on family mediation. Now, based on the knowledge gained, we are ready to help our people and citizens resolve family conflicts in a peaceful way - through dialogue, said Dilshod Kadirkhodjaev, a participant in the training and the lawyer consultant of the project.

At the end of the training, the participants were tested to find out how well they mastered the program, and trainer Gulsina Kozhoyarova noted that the participants who successfully had passed the tests received certificates of mediators in advanced family mediation.

The training lasted 3 days and covered the following 5 topics: ‘Features of family mediation’, ‘Conflictological competence of a family mediator’, ‘Communicative competence of a family mediator’, ‘Emotional competence of a mediator’, ‘Procedural competence of a family mediator’.
