In Toloiken municipality Kara-Suu district, Osh oblast, in November-December 2020, within the framework of the project ‘The Introduction of a Combination of Traditional and Modern Approaches to Prevent the Conflict in the South of Kyrgyzstan’, implemented by Women's Public Union Erayim with the support of the German international organization Bread for the World (Brot für die Welt) the Association of SHGs ‘Kerme-Too’, ‘Kurmanzhan Datka’ and ‘Shark’ were created. These Associations of SHGs decided to support the new SHGs established in Saray, Nariman and Toloiken municipalities Kara-Suu district.
SHG coordinator Narynkul Dushenalieva said that the purpose of creating new SHGs is to increase their number in these areas to strengthen harmony, friendship and unity between peoples, develop civil society and entrepreneurship to solve their problems and improve the quality of life in rural areas.
It should be noted that the Association of SHGs ‘Kerme-Too’ from January to April of this year informed the residents of Toloiken about the activities of the SHGs, told about their successes and achievements. It should be noted that the process of forming groups coincided with a pandemic that lasted for a long time and there were difficulties, - the members of the Association noted.
As a result, self-help groups ‘Zhany Ayil’ and ‘Ak-Buura’ were created in Toloiken municipality. Both groups discussed their needs with members of the ‘Kerme-Too’ Association, then adopted their own rules and established an entrance fee of 100 soms. Member of the SHG Association Avakan Nishanova told the participants that it is necessary to keep correct records from the first days of SHG activity.
Association of SHGs ‘Kerme-Too’ supported the new SHGs and allocated from 1000 to 2000 soms to the groups ‘Ak-Buura’ and ‘Zhany Ayil’. The money was contributed by the new groups to their common funds.
To achieve the goal of creating groups, local trainers began to conduct regular training courses. Ikram Israilov, the local project coordinator, said that SHG members were being trained in ‘Teambuilding’, ‘NGOs and the environment, ‘Advocacy and Lobbying’ and ‘Social Partnership’.
