A 6-day training program “Mediation. Basic Course” on training local mediators was held in Kara-Suu district of Osh oblast from February 24 to 29, 2020.

The training course was organized within the framework of the WPU Erayim's ‘Introduction of a Combination of Traditional and Modern Approaches to Prevent the Conflict in the South of Kyrgyzstan’ project, supported by the German international organization Bread for the World and conducted by an experienced trainer, head of the National Mediation Center, Gulsina Kozhoiarova. The training course was attended by 11 people from among active members of SHGs and employees of WPU Erayim in Osh oblast who intends to become local mediators.

The six-day training course addressed the following topics: Introduction to Mediation, Mediator's Conflict Resolution Competency, Mediator's Communicative Competency, Mediator's Emotional Competency, Mediation Procedures and Mediator's Legal Competency. The theoretical knowledge gained during each session was reinforced by practice using thematic cases.

“This 6-day intensive training program was very interesting and useful for all participants. We have adopted new skills on mediation, now we have a big task to prevent conflicts in the villages, and we will try to assist in resolving any conflicts peacefully,” said the participant of the course Dushenalieva Narynkul.

It should be noted, that within the framework of the project, a similar training course was organized in Bazar-Korgon district of Jalal-Abad oblast.

At the end of the training course, an exam was held to test the knowledge gained, and all participants who completed the program were awarded certificates.
