To resolve any kind of conflicts in communities peacefully and efficiently within the framework of the 3rd phase WPU Erayim’s ‘Introduction of a Combination of Traditional and Modern Approaches to Prevent the Conflict in the South of Kyrgyzstan’ project, supported by the German international organization Bread for the World, as an innovative solution approach, was included a mediation component.
From January 13 to 18 of this year within the framework of the project, a six-day training course was organized for members of SHG Associations in the Jalal-Abad oblast. The training course held by Gulsina Kozhoiarova, an experienced trainer and the head of the National Center for Mediation. 12 people in total, three members from each SHG Association have attended the training course. It should be noted that in a previous phase of the project Ak Tilek, Akyikat and Yntymak SHG Associations were organized in Akman and Bazar-Korgon rural districts of Bazar-Korgon district. During the training course, participants received detailed information about the concept and history of meditation, methods, principles and procedures of mediation, and also considered the conflicting, communicative, emotional and legal competencies of the mediator. The theoretical knowledge gained during the training was consolidated by practical tasks using specially prepared cases.
- The idea for the training and education of members of the SHG Associations on Mediation was announced at the end of the second phase of the project, as problem situations often arise in rural areas, often accompanied by conflicts. In most cases, disputes arise because of disagreements between neighbors regarding the use of land and water resources, spouses for family reasons and on the division of property and recovery of alimony. In these difficult situations, it would be appropriate to resolve disputes peacefully to maintain peace and warm relations between the parties. Previously, Kyrgyz disputes were resolved peacefully and effectively with the help of elders, but today, due to changes in the situation and people's behavior, the approaches that our ancestors used have ceased to be applied. Our team is committed to using a mediation approach to resolve disputes peacefully. To do this, they need to be educated and experienced. Based on the results of the six-day training course, participants will be competent to become mediators in rural areas, said SHGs Coordinator of the project in Jalal-Abad oblast Kishimzhan Boronbaeva.
It should be noted that according to the participants of the training course “Mediation. Basics” training was very interesting and useful, where theoretical and practical knowledge was given.
At the end of the event, all participants were awarded certificates.
