Project title: ‘The Introduction of a Combination of Traditional and Modern Approaches to Prevent Conflict in the South of Kyrgyzstan’ I Phase.

Project goal: Self-help groups have been developed as the local Institute in Kyrgyz check, Asanchek, Kaarman, Furkat, Jany-tumush, Kyshmala, Kolot, Bazar Korgon villages and Jenish district of Jalal-Abad city as the main instrument of peacebuilding.
Project results:
1) 80 adult and 60 children Self-Help Groups (SHG CSHG), consisting of representatives of different ethnicities, were established and reached sustainability.
2) 1508 capacity building trainings were conducted for SHG and CSHG members. SHG and CSHG members are working at the local level on strengthening the peace infrastructure and protecting social and economic rights of residents of the areas covered by the project.
The results of the internal evaluation of SHG activities illustrate this: - 491 (81%) SHG members participated in the events dedicated to tolerance among the residents: - 543 (90%) SHG members participated in the events dedicated to strengthening inter-ethnic harmony; - 472 (78.2%) SHG members participated in the events dedicated to strengthening inter-ethnic unity; - 490 (81.2%) SHG members participated in the events dedicated to strengthening inter-ethnic friendship; 232 (38.4%) SHG members participated in opening a Maternal school; - 180 (29.8%) SHG members participated in activities aimed at improving access to drinking and irrigation water; - 326 (54%) SHG members participated in street cleaning activities; - 101 (16.7%) SHG members participated in construction of a school; - 157 (26%) SHG members participated in school improvement activities; - 75 (12.4%) SHG members participated in works on improvement of conditions at the local medical units; - 150 (24.8%) SHG members participated in opening kindergartens and works on improvement of their quality; - 316 (52.4%) SHG members participated in street lighting works; - 301 (49.9%) SHG members participated in works on improvement of internal roads; - 504 (83.5%) SHG members participated in planting trees. 1) As a result of the trainings, SHG and CSHG members were able to hold 22 round tables, 8 exhibitions, 13 multi-ethnic cultural events and established 9 small joint enterprises in order to strengthen the local infrastructure of peace and to protect the residents' social and economic rights. Eleven out of 40 Maternal schools, established within the project, were put onto local AAs' books. 2) 40 Maternal schools (10 seasonal and 30 full-time) were established at the initiative of the SHG members, steering groups and local activists. The project anticipated that 540 children would go to the schools, but actually 1,488 children (52% girls and 48% boys) are attending them. The Maternal schools created 203 jobs.
3) 5,897 hours of psychological rehabilitation courses were held for 1,465 beneficiaries (69% women).
4) 24013 hours of lessons for 2040 children (58% girls) were conducted in 8 clubs within 3 years in order to enrich the spiritual world of children in the project area and and direct their minds for positive thinking.
5) Activity plans developed by 6 SHGs were incorporated into strategic plans of local authorities.
6) Members of SHGs, created in the Mady, Shark, Kyzyl-Kyshtak, Akman and Bazar-Korgon AAs and Ch. Aitmatov territorial unit of the Jalal-Abad city, achieved incorporation of their problem resolution and peacebuilding plans into the annual plans of their AA authorities.
7) The internal evaluation of changes in interethnic friendship, unity and activeness, reached within the 3-year project, demonstrated that the project impact was big.
