Targeted humanitarian aid to vulnerable people in the fight against COVID-19

104.04.2020   20:36

The coronavirus COVID-19, which has spread throughout the world, has also affected Kyrgyzstan. The Kyrgyz Government is doing everything possible to prevent its spread. Despite all efforts, the number of infected people is increasing every day and on April 4 it reached 144 people.

Unfortunately, this figure is growing every day. In these difficult days, due to the lack of personal protective gears (medical masks, antiseptics) and basic foodstuffs for vulnerable families among target groups in the Bazar-Korgon and Kara-Suu districts, WPU Erayim with the help of reserve funding under the project “The Introduction of a Combination of Traditional and Modern Approaches to Prevent the Conflict in the South of Kyrgyzstan”, supported by German international organisation Brot für die Welt (BftW) organized targeted assistance to low-income families.

The main objective of the charity campaign is to assist the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic in stabilizing the situation with the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic in Kyrgyzstan.

Within the framework of the charity campaign, 64 needy families in Mady, Shark, Kyzyl-Kyshtak rural districts of Kara-Suu district in Osh oblast and Bazar-Korgon, Akman rural districts of Bazar-Korgon district, Ch. Aitmatov territorial unit of Jalal-Abad city in Jalal-Abad oblast were provided by humanitarian aid in the form of 64 bags of wheat flour of the first grade, 64 bottles of vegetable oil (5 litres bottles), 68 litres of antiseptics (1 litre of each family), 326 pairs of medical gloves (5 pairs for each family). Due to the acute shortage of masks in pharmacies purchased 64 meters of gauze for sewing masks by SHG. Masks, in the amount of 320 pieces (5 masks from 1 meter of gauze) are sewn by SHG sewing workshops in Bazar-Korgon and Kara-Suu districts, which were opened with the financial support of Peter Marsling, a partner and sponsor of WPU Erayim from Denmark.

In connection with the epidemiological situation in the country, restrictions were imposed on movement throughout the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic. Aiyl Okmotu (local authorities) helped in obtaining permits and passes to rural districts. The delivery of basic foodstuffs and personal protective gears (medical masks, antiseptics, gauzes) was carried out by the FRUNZE hypermarket chain and the NEMAN-PHARM pharmaceutical network.

All families who received aid and the administration of rural districts in the project areas expressed sincere gratitude to the German international organization Bread for the World for the assistance provided during these difficult days.
